Nerd Alert: Adventure Time

via Zap2it

The last few weeks, I've been pretty busy searching and reading about everything Southern Ohio related but all that researching temporarily stifled my creative juices when it comes to actually writing posts about Southern Ohio. So I decided I needed a respite and I'm posting about another favorite show of mine; Adventure Time! This is considered a kids show but I would compare it to a kids show like Rocko's Modern Life; you know...a kids show that really isn't for kids. This show of course isn't anything like Rocko's; it is way more creative, cute and hilarious. It is about Jake the Human and Finn the Dog living in a post apocalyptic fantasy world where they spend their days adventuring and partying. I've read a few debates on whether this is appropriate for kids. I must say it does have its trippy moments and grown-up innuendo but I did get the chance to watch this with my 7 year old niece and she loves it. It does have good messages about friendship, loyalty, and honor mixed in but most importantly it's fun and true to what kids are like. Finn is 13 years old so he has if-ie judgment, he's quick to fight, overreacts and says stuff like "poots", "sucks" and "heck". He also uses terms like "algerbraic" and "mathematical" when he thinks something is really cool which is awesome in my book. My favorite part of the show though are the sweet beats they play, I'm talking DnB beats my friends. I'm serious, these toons know how to party and the whole show is a fun, inventive interpretation of pop culture trends. If you like fantasy/folklore and children shows with occasional grown-up sensibilities, give this show a view.

I'll be back next Mondy with more stuff to do in Southern Ohio. This weekend, I'll be spending some time at the Celtic festival and tonight I'm seeing a friend play at Bogart's in Cincinnati which is a venue I've never been to, so expect reviews next week!
