I'm not usually this scathing about anything and especially not on this blog but after the third episode, I had to vent. I even dedicated space on google plus to try to get a forum going on each episode. So far it's just me and another person talking about how we don't like it which is fun but I want to see the other side. So now I turn to my blog to get some discourse going on the matter because I need to find a reason to solider on to see if this will get good. And just to catch everyone up to speed, I'm posting my g+ forum thoughts:
The Walking Dead Forum
Episode 1 [SPOILERS]
So here are my thoughts...
* It was suspenseful as usual and I enjoyed how much smarter everyone has gotten (i.e not yelling during the zombie raid, Daryl covering himself with a zombie).
* Clearly Daryl is the Zombie Ninja and he is the most compelling character.
* I still find the lead actor wooden and not that interesting. I particularly didnt enjoy his monologues, soliloquies whatever they're called in the beginning and in the church.
* They got a bit campy with all the sound effects especially during the zombie dissection scene.
* Did anyone else get the feeling that they were going to have Jesus become a zombie? Or maybe have a zombie pop up from behind him?
* I still don't know what T-Dog (oh why, oh why is that his name, come on!) cut himself on.
What I look forward to
* I really want the love interest between Lori and Shane to stop. She seems to be baiting him with mentioning it all the time or being upset about how he doesn't talk to her son anymore. Get over it.
* New characters, new zombie rules and more focus on other characters that aren't such debbie-downers...I'm looking at you Andrea
* MORE DARYL!! :)
Scariest Zombie: The first zombie who turned around in the church, yikes!
What did you think? (I know I'm late but I'll be on top of it this weekend)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Walking Dead
Episode 2 [SPOILERS]
* so, this episode was rough for me; over dramatic dialogue with bad accents ("you can pray to God but your place is here") slow pacing (how much time do we have to spend watching Rick give blood) and few zombie fights (the Andrea wimp out was lame)
* I know its just the second episode but I'm still not invested in any character to care enough to see what happens. I want to be but Im not yet
* Did anyone notice that Lori said that Shane was also A+ but he didn't offer that info for the kid? Slightly intriguing...
Scariest Zombie:
The speedy ones. They all seem to be moving really fast this season.
Thoughts?

Episode 3 [SPOILERS]
Why do I keep watching this show?
* I thought a third times a charm...not so much
* Shane is evil! dun dun dun...sigh
* MORE Blood giving seriously!?
...and that's all I can write anymore. It was yet another boring, melodramatic episode with bad dialogue and very few action scenes. There were no revelations about characters, no development in the story and they still haven't found that dumb little girl. So now I'm going to share what I wish had happened in the episode:
* Andrea shoots herself as soon as Dale gives her the gun...OR...
* When Daryl shots the hung zombie he misses his brain, hits the noose and the zombie falls on Andrea killing her on impact.
* As Glenn gets startled by the farmer's daughter (?) he shoots her and kills her. He begs Theo (I refuse to call him T-"whatever") not to tell and they blame a zombie attack or some such
* The boy dies
* The little girl appears back at the RV to find her mother alone and attacks her. Daryl comes back and ninjas both of them and then they can finally move on!

Please share your thoughts if you watch this series. I know I was harsh and maybe my set-up wasn't the most welcoming for those who like it but I really want to hear your thoughts.
I haven't seen that show but a hallmark if Zombizm is cheapness & independence. The Walking Dead seems to be a, I dunno, conundrum?
ReplyDeleteDead Road is more like what a Zombie series should probably be. Amateurs, posting new episodes whenever they get around to it.

That is true in some cases. And camp is always fun too but there have been some bigger budget zombie flicks I enjoyed, i.e. 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead (2004). Someone at twitter explained it best in regards to The Walking Dead
ReplyDelete@5chw4r7z you suffer through the show for the mind blowing last 5 minutes every week
And by "mind blowing" I believe he means painfully boring. I just can't get over how bad it is because, frankly, they had good material to draw from. Heck, they could have changed stuff up with the zombie rules but nope, everything is trite from the zombies to the story telling. I'm probably doing what they want though, talking about it and still watching haha. This week may be my last if something big doesn't happen.
I'll have to check out Dead Road, thanks for sharing! If you have anymore recommendations please share :)
