It hasn’t
been cold or snowy in Dayton but it sure has been chilly around this blog yuk yuk.
January wasn’t a very productive month in terms of blogging but I did get
started on all some other projects that are fairly SoOh related.
Acivated
Spaces
Pop-up
Project
We are at
it again and the second round of pop-ups shops will be coming at ya by May;
just in time for summer! Currently we are working on getting the application
done for potential pop-up shops to fill out. I will post a link at top in case
anyone is interested. And even you aren’t please help spread the word. We would
love to have a diverse amount of shops apply!
Street
Level Team
Just
starting to kick off this project and I’m hoping we can bring it back bigger
and better than before. If you are or know of anyone who is artistic, this
project is a great opportunity to let you creative juices flow. This is not
just for artists per se; interior designers, industrial designers, graphic
designers, landscapers, architects, etc would be welcome to bring their visual
fields into this project. It would be great to see installations showcasing the
spaces and the great talent I know exists in Dayton. So please stay tuned at
Activated Spaces!
Personal Projects
SoOh Design Co.
I’m
starting up my graphic design freelancing. Eventually, I will have a website
that shows off my work and outlines my services but for now join my circle on
google + if you want to keep posted.
This was is a left fielder for me because I honestly didn't expect to get back
into the mason jar peddling business. But when opportunity comes a knockin'
you've got to answer and I've developed a new product I'm very excited to sell!
I’ve already decided I’m not going to reveal what it is and instead let the
anticipation machine spin. I will tell you this, it involves carpentry and will
be perfect for parties and weddings. Let the spinning begin!
Networkin’ It
I’ve been
more of a chatty cathy lately. Well, ok not really chit chatty because I really
dont like chit chatting and I am really bad it. First, I have a terrible poker
face and chit chat often requires blank diplomatic expressions. Secondly, I
don’t keep up with sports, weather and I don’t care to talk about my job.
Nonetheless, I have had an easier time getting to know people. I have several
ways of doing that, that I’ll share:
“You look _____, what’s your story?” - I haven’t actually used those exact words, still working up to it. The idea is that you point out one thing on the person that catches your attention and ask them about it. The conversation ends up being way more interesting
“I'm terrible at chit chat”
If they don’t like it either they will start talking about what’s important to them. If they aren’t in the mood we will wrap up the convo and part ways. Win-win in my mind.
Anyway,
enough about my diatribe on chit-chat. I’ve gotten to meet some very neat
people I liked to share!
DaytonRacquet Club - I went to a wedding there and I got to mingle with all sorts of
folks. Unfortunately, something (open bar) caused me to experience short-term
memory loss and I'm not able to list of those great people. Instead I want to
acknowledge the wonderful staff who worked there whom I haven't forgotten! They
were so professional, so courtesy and so patient. If you are looking for a
space to have an event or wedding, I recommend it. And the view can not be
beat!
MegMantia of She & I Photography - I happen to work at the same place her Mom
does and on a day she came to visit I saw she was carrying a DSLR camera. As
she was walking out the door, I decided to ask her what sort of camera she has
(You have a camera, what's your story?) and we got to learn about each others
start-up businesses. So we exchanged business cards (aka my contact written on
a post-it note...I really got to get better about carrying my bcards) and
hopefully we get a chance to work with each other in the near future.
...
What have you been up to in January?
