I might have lots of explaining to do when it comes to my absence lately but I don't want that to get in the way of telling you about an awesome new place called Fusian. Fusian has Southern Ohio love written all over it. It was started in Cincinnati by Oakwood natives (basically Dayton locals) and they now have a Dayton location. One of the things I've missed from Cleveland is the accessibility to lots of good sushi. It had so many great places (Pacific East shout-out!). But now, Dayton has a nice place to get sushi. Fusian is causal, affordable and the portions are phenomenally filling. The set-up feels very Chipotle like which is good because it's easy to get the hang of and fast. OinkADoodle Moo has the same set-up only BBQ style. I also like how Fusian serves beer and sake (very nice touch). I do have two personal wants from them; plum wine (it's cheap and deliciously sweeter than sake) and rice balls or onigiri (not sushi but a wonderful to go item that won't spoil quickly). I really liked Fusian and will be going again soon. It's also great to have locals bring more cool things to Dayton and Southern Ohio!

We love Fusian, Zach and Stephan are awesome guys. The Cincinnati location will be moving from the almost hidden Carew Tower location to a new place off Fountain Square by summer.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how I was excited for the reply function here at blogger but I have yet to remember to use it :P
DeleteYea it's a great story and I really like the place. It also feels like a fairly healthy place to eat which can be hard to come by when you go out.
ReplyDeleteHope their move in Cincy is successful!
I'm sure it will be.
ReplyDeleteFunny aside, when I see those guys out running around they call me Mr 5chw4r7z, I used to tell them to call me Bob, and they'd say ok Mr 5chw4r7z.
So now I just go with it.
Do they pronounce it in some unique way? Or do they just say each character? I'm impressed that they can remember it, ha!
DeleteNo they pronounce it schwartz, the normal way
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the Cincinnati Fusian is moving to a more central location. That's got to be great for business.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, though, that I'm completely not a fan. Maybe I'm just too much of a purist when it comes to sushi, but everything about this place seems wrong to me. I am glad that we have so many locally-owned restaurants downtown to counter the chains, and I know that plenty of other people like this place, so the owners must be doing something right.
Glad you commented a dissenting opinion. I too have some concerns. When I looked at their site I have to admit I thought they looked a bit cavalier. There is a rich tradition behind sushi and it does seem odd to make it into fast food...by Americans. It almost seems like it shouldn't be called sushi when you dump chicken and/or grilled broccoli in it.
DeleteOn the other hand I did enjoy it and I try not to be picky when it comes to food. I try to stay open and not be critical of preparation style or atmosphere; of course there's always exceptions. In short, you brought up a good point and not all local places are created equal.
