I was hesitant to blog about this because this is entering the dangerous waters of super nerdom. I'm talking the-kind-of-nerd-hobby-that-alienates-nerds-from-the-rest-of-society dangerous. But none-the-less I'm going to post about it because it was a big part of my visit to Cleveland last week. While other folks may have done summer activities in Cleveland (which happens to be the best place to summer because it was 70-80 degrees the whole way through; caveat don't ever winter there...everrr!) I spent a lot of time nerd-ing out with Kyle and friends. We did play beach volleyball at Scorchers on Miles Road (interesting to say the least) and we did enjoy a lot of outdoor eating but the bulk of our time with friends was spent teaching yours truly (Cleveland reference intended) how to play Magic. No not Harry Potter magic, not Magic the movie, not Magic Man...Magic the Gathering (the card game). Cue long world-weary sigh...all kidding aside I did mildly enjoy the game which had a lot to do with my friends' (all guys by the way) enthusiasm and nerd-talk during the game. I got to hear things like Dragon's Claw, Goblin Grenade, Gideon Jura, mythic rares, planeswalker, declaring attackers, activating abilities, on the stack...whew that was exhausting recalling all that...ok Kyle retold me all of it for this post. I will spare you the details of how to play which I frankly don't fully understand (yet!...hmm) but if you ever need to flex your nerd-cred here are some basics:
Planeswalker: a type of card that represents you in the game, players are planeswalkers
Tapping: turn your card sideways to activate abilities
Untapping: turn your cards upright to be able to tap them again later
And that's all I got. This may not prove very useful for anyone that reads this post but you never know...Magic MIGHT save your life one day. While writing this post, it made curious to know if anyone reading is a nerd or know nerds. What is the nerdiest thing that you ever participated in?
This is hilarious! Nerd things are the best. Particularly nerd things that we participated in back in the day! Boys are easiest to get along w/. I participated in some math competitions, LOL!! That would def be up there on the nerd-scale.
