Redecorating a Office for Three

Today I had the great opportunity of redecorating a couple of friends' office. It wasn't a total makeover though. It needs some bigger changes than just decor i.e. the wallpaper, the hole in the corner, and new furniture but all in all I think it was a nice transformation done on a shoestring budget.

Before:

Challenge:

This redesign was for three guys but one guy was the boss and got most of the say. Well not exactly because he actually didn't have much to say. The challenge was he told me he liked the 1930s style (he couldn't identify what he liked, he just said like the style of the house; I'm not even sure if the house was built in the 30s...), he wanted everything to be functional, he wanted it to be somewhat contemporary, and he really wanted a reclining chair near his fireplace. On a very low budget of below $100, the chair obviously wasnt going to happen. So I kept my purchases small and functional, I started with going to the Goodwill at Shaker Square (I am in Cleveland this week) and ended at Target because frankly I couldn't get every item I needed in one and only shopping at one thrift store.

Decor:

From top left to right
$14.99 - Wall Clock (Target)
$ 4.00 - Tissue Box (Goodwill)
$ 3.00 - Painting (Goodwill)
$19.99 - Accent Rug 27x48 (Target)
$19.99 - Set of four mirrors (Target)
$ 4.00 - Lamp (Goodwill)
$ 2.00 - Lampshade set of 2 (Goodwill)
$ 4.00 - Lamp (Goodwill)

Total w/tax: $81.68

Middle:

I had to rearrange the furniture before I got to do the fun decorating. I also had to sweep...I guess I didn't have to but I really did for my own conscience. By the way, I did all the moving myself while the guys were out for a meeting. Whenever any of my friends show exceptional strength I like to call them a Clydesdale. This was definitely a Clydesdale moment for me.

After:

As you can see I used a couple pieces that they already owned. The mirror was in an upstairs room sitting on the floor, what a waste! But not anymore, it looks right at home above the fireplace. I also used their elephant bookend that was hidden in the bookcase as a sculpture on the mantle place. They also had lots of round silver candle holders so I put a trio at the other end of the mantle. I repurposed the old wood desk and the old white desk by creating another L-shape desk which fits nicely in that corner. Final results:

Function: lamps, tissue box, the clock (hidden behind the tree)
Regards: the black, gold, silver combo worked nicely and I loved all the repurposing I was able to do
Regrets: I didn't have nails so I couldn't hang up the set of four mirrors. The other side of the room (behind the camera) needs some work, mostly tidying up by the boss. They also need to address their wire situation; Lifehacker has many good articles on the subject. I also had reservations about moving the bookcase in front of the window, still do. I think it would be worth it to get a short book case and move that into their conference room at some point
Overall: This was my first time redoing a room for someone else and I really enjoyed the whole process; the shopping; the thrifting, the arranging and even the sweeping

...

What would you have done different in this room with the resources that were available?
